Officer Johnny Almendarez,50,died on 8/19/18. He was found unresponsive at his home and died of a heart attack. Officer Almendarez was with the department for 20 years. He was a canine handler along with his K9 partner Robby Mac aka “Hero”. Officer Almendarez earned the department’s Purple Heart award in 2012 after apprehending a suspect after being attacked while investigating a suspicious person call.

The Connecticut Police Work Dog Association Inc. does not represent any specific law enforcement agency, nor do we advocate any specific method of training. We have the expertise to assist any law enforcement agency in establishing a canine unit, canine policy, and canine unit procedures. We can provide assistance in handler and canine selection, and can assist your agency locate a credible training program.
