Comander Greg Carnicle was shot and killed on 3/29/20 during a domestic violence call in the 23800  block of North 40th Drive, near Pinnacle Peak Road in Arizona. The incident began about 7 p.m. when officers arrived for calls reporting a dispute between roommates. Jacob Emry McIlveen, 22, was complying at first and there was no sign of any problem until McIlveen “slammed the front door on the officers and the incident escalated. McIlveen started to get erratic again and told the officers he wouldn’t leave. Commander Carnicle, Officer Dowhan and Officer Hubert were standing on the stairs when McIlveen opened the door and opened fire. Comander Greg Carnicle was killed and Officer Marissa Dowhan, 23, and Officer Alicia Hubert, 22, were wounded and survived and were  in stable condition. Officer Dowhan has been with the Phoenix Police Department for three years and Officer Hubert has been with the department for nearly two years. The suspect had fired multiple shots at a police drone flying over the area. The suspect was barricated inside the house but more officers made their way in around 11:40 and the suspect was shot and pronounced dead. Carnicle was a 31 year veteran of the Phoenix Police Department and was just months away from retiring. Carnicle held positions including the special assignments unit, K9 and he most recently oversaw all evening and weekend patrol operations.” Carnicle is survived by his wife and four children.
