died 4/23/17. Det. Sawyer, was a longtime resident of Suffield, CT. Det Sawyer passedd away suddenly at Bay State Medical Center in Springfield, Massachusetts after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Sawyer’s law enforcement career spanned 30 years, Det. Sawyer was a graduate of the 106th Training Troop and had retired on April 1, 2017 after an exemplary career. He was a Canine Handler of canines “Lily” and “Sophie.”. He spent the last 15 years as a Detective and K-9 handler in the FEIU. John previously worked at Troop H -Hartford and Troop W – Bradley International Airport. .”Sawyer served as Past President of the Connecticut Chapter of the International Association of Arson Investigators, where he was awarded the Investigator of the Year Award and the Arnold Markle Award for Outstanding Service.
