He worked as a certified welder at West Point until 1995 when he joined the Orange County Sheriff’s Office. He worked at the Sheriff’s office as a Police Officer until 1998 when he joined the New Windsor Police Department on January 27, 1998. He served as Patrol Officer and was assigned as a K-9 Officer on February 23, 2001. In February 1999, Detective Mitchetti received the Excellent Police Duty Award for the apprehension of three suspects involved in a robbery and unlawful imprisonment of a local resident. In November 2002 he received the Meritorious Police Duty Award for disarming a suspect with a knife. In 2004 and 2005 he received the Honorable Mention Award.
