James “Jim” Jude Matarese of Falmouth, Virginia passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 9, 2023 surrounded by his wife and children at Henrico Doctors’ Hospital. Jim was a dedicated police and K-9 handler for 34 years with the United States Park Police. He loved working with police K-9s and was committed to helping train other K-9 handlers. Shortly after becoming a K-9 handler, Jim joined Region 3 of the United States Police Canine Association and quickly became very involved in the organization. Jim served as Region 3 President, National President, and most recently National Treasurer.Jim is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Margaret B. Matarese; children Matthew Matarese, Christopher Matarese, Philip Matarese, and Amelia (Matarese) Tupta.
