Lieutenant Charles Randall Smith

Lt. Charles Randall Smith “Smitty” of Greenbrier Sheriff’s Department died on 2/1/23 at his residence. Randy enlisted in the Army National Guard doing his basic in Fort Leonard Wood Missouri. He did a tour in Afganistan while serving. Retiring after 23 years of service with the rank of Master Sergeant. He received numerous awards and citations including a Bronze Star .He started his career in Hinton, then Summers County Sheriff’s Department before going to Greenbrier Sheriff’s Department for the next 18 years. He was currently a Lieutenant with his trusted K9 partner, Thelma. Randy was also a member of the crime scene unit and SWAT unit. He is survived by his wife Ashley and children Isabelle, Peyton, and Cale Smith and two step – children. Randy’s parents request donations be made in Randy’s name to the VA for further research for PTSD, Cincinnati VAMC PTSD Research Study at www.research.va.gov
