Francis X. OBrien, 79 passed away on 2/21/24. He joined the United States Marine Corps in 1962, serving in Vietnam. In 1966, he joined the Philadelphia Police Department, first working in the 6th district, then on the el and subway as a K9 cop with his beloved police dog, Devil, and finally as a detective in the 35th district. He maintained a 4.0 GPA at Community College of Philadelphia while working as a police officer and attending night classes in Criminal Justice and Psychology. After his retirement from the PPD in 2003, Frank went on to work as a security guard at Fox Chase Cancer Center. He will be remembered as a devoted husband to his wife Kay and loving father to his three daughters Tara Schernecke (Jeff), Donna Ennis (Billy), and Erica O’Brien (Vincent Gerbino) Donations in Frank’s honor can be made to the Tacony Library (by calling 215-6858755 and making a direct donation via phone); The Special Olympics of Pennsylvania (support.olympics.org), or Shriners Hospitals for Children(lovetotherescue.org)
