showed he died from carbon monoxide poisoning. Hooks joined the Sioux City Police Department in 2002. Before that he worked at the North Sioux City Police Department. Hooks had been an award-winning member of K-9 teams since his days with the North Sioux City Police Department. In 2000 he was on a team that won first place in the United States Police Canine Association’s annual narcotic certification trials. In 2005  Hooks was a member of the Sioux City Police Department’s K9 team that took first place at a regional competition in the United States Police Canine Association’s detector dog trials.
