Natick Police K9 Officer Michael Mabardy was an 11-year veteran and previously worked for the Nantucket, MA police department. He received several accommodations, including the Life Saving Award. Mike also served as a Field Training Officer as well as a member of the S.W.A.T. team. Michael was a member of the Natick and Massachusetts Police Officer Association. Mabardy suffered a medical emergency while playing hockey at the New England Sports Center in Marlborough. As part of his role, Mabary investigated incidents with Axel, his K9 partner. Devoted father of Avalynn, Emily, Madison and Mackenzie, and beloved partner of Elizabeth Morrison. Officer George D. O’Brien

April 18, 2022 – Hanover, New York – Age 86

Former K9 Officer George D. O’Brien, age 86, of Hanover, passed away peacefully on April 18, 2022 at UPMC Hanover.He was the loving and devoted  husband of Marta P. Fay O’Brien who passed away in 2002, together they shared 43 years of marriage.He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War and was honorably discharged. He worked as a police officer with Metropolitan Police Department’s Canine Unit and later as a Secret Service Agent where he served on Embassy Row and retired under Vice President Walter F. Mondale’s detail in 1978. He was a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Catholic War Veterans, and the International Police Association. George was also a parishioner of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Hanover. George is survived by his daughter Anna Sanders George was preceded in death by his son Martin O’Brien who passed away in 2015; In lieu of flowers, contributions in George’s memory may be made to Tunnel to Towers Foundation, 2361 Hylan Blvd., Staten Island, NY 10306.
