Officer Misael “Mase” Aguayo, Tulare Police Department committed suicide on 4/4/23. At 3:54 p.m. department officials tried to contact Aguayo, who was on duty. Several attempts to reach him by radio and phone went unanswered. When officers went to find Aguayo, they discovered he’d died by suicide. Aguayo started his law enforcement career as a Tulare Police Department explorer, and in September 2004, he was hired as a community service officer.  He attended the police academy and became a sworn police officer in 2006. Mase served as a gang detective, school resource officer and was on SWAT. He was also a police dog officer with his partner “Cowboy.” He was recently assigned to the HALO team (Homeless Assistance Liaison Officer). Misael  Aguayo is survived by his sons Michael Misael Aguayo and Matthew Anthony Aguayo, His partner Brittney Gilbert and her children KaiLee Gilbert and RyLee Gilbert.
