Sergeant Busisiwe Mjwara, 42, died on 4/17/22 as a result of the KwaZulu-Natal floods as well as her police dog Leah who also drowned who tried to save her during a flood search and rescue operation. At about 11.30 am Mjwara was conducting a search in the Msunduzi River for three victims that had drowned earlier in the week, when she got into difficulty and drowned. Sergeant Mjwara was airlifted to a nearby hospital but was declared dead on arrival. The officer was hard at work recovering those swept away by the torrential rains that have battered the province since 4/11/22.The death toll has risen to 443 with 63 people still missing.
