Oregon State Trooper, Sgt. Marcus J. McDowell, 48, committed suicide in his patrol car while on duty on 3/29/22. Sgt. McDowell, was discovered in the driveway of his home in Joseph with a single gunshot wound to the head. His body was discovered at 3:40 p.m. McDowell had “made notice” of his suicide. McDowell was set to go to trial over divorce proceedings with his wife of 24 years in May, court records show. McDowell had worked in the Patrol and Fish & Wildlife divisions over the years and as a police dog handler around John Day and La Grande, and currently served as the supervisor for state troopers in Union and Wallowa counties. Sgt. McDowell had 17 years on the state police force.Marcus is survived by his daughter, Alysa McDowell and son Auston McDowell.
