United States Army Sgt. Sarah Roque, 23, was found dead in a dumpster on 10/21/24 after reported missing.When Sgt. Sarah Roque was absent from formation at Missouri’s Fort Leonard Wood Base, authorities issued a missing-person alert. The alert stated that her family nor her chain of command could make contact with her. Later that evening, Roque’s body was found in a dumpster adjacent to the single-soldier quarters on base. Sarah was in the 5th Engineer Battalion. After enlisting in 2020, she attended basic training at Fort Leonard Wood. Roque served as a mine dog handler with the 5th Engineer Battalion’s K9 detachment. Roque’s awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the Army Service Ribbon.

The Army of Special Trial Counsel on 10/30/24 charged 21 -year-old Spc. Wooster Rancy with the murder and obstructing justice in the death of Sgt. Sarah Roque, 23. Officials said the suspect is from North Miami, Florida, and joined the Army in 2022. He serves as a combat engineer with the 509th Clearance Company, 5th Engineer Battalion, and conducted basic combat training at Fort Leonard Wood. He is being held in pretrial confinement and is awaiting a preliminary hearing.
